A newly remodeled Ford F250 Super Duty truck is displayed at the new Louisville Ford truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S. September 30, 2016. UAW President Shawn Fain on Wednesday ordered a strike at Ford's Kentucky Truck factory after Ford negotiators did not present a richer contract proposal. About 4,600 Ford workers could be idled because their jobs depend on production of Super Duty pickups and large Lincoln and Ford SUVs at Kentucky Truck, said Ford manufacturing vice president Bryce Currie. Already, 13,000 workers at Ford suppliers have been furloughed because of earlier UAW walkouts at two Ford assembly plants, Ford supply chain chief Liz Door said. Fain and other UAW officials called a meeting with Ford at on Wednesday evening and demanded a new offer, which Ford did not have, a Ford official said.

A newly remodeled Ford F250 Super Duty truck is displayed at the new Louisville Ford truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S. September 30, 2016. Analysts at Wells Fargo estimated that Ford will lose about $150 million per week in core profit from the Kentucky plant strike. Even with 8,700 workers at Ford's Kentucky Truck plant now on strike, less than a quarter of the 150,000 UAW workers at the Detroit Three automakers are now on strike. Ford warned on Wednesday that workers at a dozen other factories could be sent home because of the truck plant walkout. Its Kentucky truck plant, the company's most profitable operation, generates $25 billion in annual sales, about a sixth of Ford's global automotive revenue.

Electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive could be the "next Tesla," according to Evercore ISI. He hiked his price target by $5 to $35, which implies shares could jump about 44.2% over the next 12 months. "We believe outside of Tesla & BYD, Rivian is the only OEM showing increased evidence of meeting all 3 criteria," McNally said. He noted that Rivian has executed on its cost and delivery targets, de-risking its path to ending the following year with more than 10% in gross margin. Rivian previously reported a loss for the second quarter that was narrower than expected.

Ford's annual filing showed about 57,000 of its hourly employees in the United States were represented by the UAW, while the UAW represents about 43,000 U.S. hourly workers at Stellantis. Stellantis last week offered its U.S. hourly workers a 14.5% wage hike over four years, but no lump sum payments. Fain also is aiming to get agreements that would allow the UAW to represent hourly workers at joint-venture EV battery plants opened or planned by the Detroit Three. In fiscal 2019, GM's fourth-quarter profit took a $3.6 billion hit from a 40-day UAW strike that shut down its profitable U.S. operations. Contract talks between the UAW and the Detroit automakers have gone on till the strike deadline and beyond in past years.

Companies Tesla Inc FollowBEIJING, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) on Monday said it has cut prices in China for its Model Y long-range and performance versions starting on Aug. 14, sending its shares lower on concern of further pressure on its profit margins. The electric-car company reduced the starting prices of both models by 14,000 yuan ($1,934.58). The Model Y Long Range's starting price drops 4.5% to 299,900 yuan and the starting price of the Model Y Performance is now 349,900 yuan, down 3.8%. Last month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said further price cuts were a possibility, even if it squeezed the automaker's margins.

And an ongoing EV price war started earlier this year by Tesla's Elon Musk, is forcing deeper losses as companies chase volume over profits in the EV sector. Ford recently adjusted its electric vehicle timeline to reflect this change in EV demand. After several years of rapid growth from eager early adopters to the electric vehicle segment, EV sellers are facing the first plateau. EV sales hit a high of nearly 6% in the US last year, bringing the segment closer to a predicted 7-10% tipping point. At this level of adoption, EV sales are expected to slow considerably.

Tesla 's plan to share its full self-driving capabilities with original equipment manufacturers has Wall Street analysts talking. TSLA 1D mountain Tesla shares fall after second-quarter earnings The comments from Musk came after Tesla topped second-quarter earnings expectations but showed margin weakness due to recent price cuts. Despite these near-term margin concerns , Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas highlighted the FSD commentary as his biggest takeaway from the call. He did, however, stress some logistical concerns, including whether Tesla would need "greater involvement" in full software system of its peers. "A potential licensing of FSD would represent an important change of scope in how investors measure the TAM for Tesla."

In the last few years, however, this outlook has changed to "Tesla, BYD , and everyone else," according to Evercore. Chinese EV-manufacturer BYD sold more NEVs, or new energy vehicles, in 2022 than Tesla. Evercore noted that BYD's sales guidance for China in 2023 could potentially exceed the total EV sales in the U.S. and EU combined from 2022. "In many respects, such as battery and commercial vehicle platforms, BYD is already leading TSLA & others. Tesla shares could be limited going forward, according to Evercore ISI. Analyst Chris McNally cut his price target on the electric car maker to $200 per share from $300, noting that the stock has now fallen below a key threshold. "The $150-163 technical level was seen as a critical battleline to defend beyond further weakness…and failed," McNally wrote in a note Tuesday, a day after Tesla shares closed at $149.87. "China stalled growth remains, but with global backlog winding down, investors are also revisiting demand assumptions for the first time. Remember, TSLA has ~60% share US but < 10% share EU/China, while BYD grows to 4x TSLA's NEV size in China," McNally said.
Electric vehicle stocks have had a tough year, but don't count them out just yet, according to Evercore ISI. Analyst Chris McNally said the past year has been a much-needed expectation reset for nascent EV players, such as Fisker , Rivian Automotive , and Lucid Group . Each has separate, premium "go-to-market" niches within the growing EV market, he said. "Then we would begin to see vertical integration & branding advantages take charge," McNally wrote. Lucid Lucid epitomizes an aspirational EV, McNally said.
Wall Street is skeptical of GM's ambitious EV plans

DETROIT – Wall Street is skeptical of General Motors' plans to produce profitable electric vehicles years ahead of schedule and substantially bring down battery costs amid supply chain problems and broader economic concerns. GM's average rating is overweight with a 12-month target price of $47.77 per share, according to analysts compiled by FactSet. That would be years ahead of schedule and mean a dramatic decline in the automaker's battery costs amid supply chain problems, cyclical demand concerns and potential shortages in raw materials. It boosted its cash flow guidance to between $10 billion and $11 billion, up from $7 billion and $9 billion. Here are comments from other analysts as well as their ratings and price targets for GM following the investor event.
